Podiatry Clinic seeks Physician Assistant

A single provider podiatry office in Anchorage, Alaska is looking for an orthopedic- or podiatry-trained physician assistant to join our team. Candidates should be highly skilled and motivated to provide exceptional patient care and surgical assistance. This position will play an integral role in promoting the success of the practice and the overall health and well-being of our patients.

Candidates should possess:

• At least three years of clinical office experience, orthopedic and/or podiatry preferred.
• Strong analytical and technical skills
• Detail-oriented with good problem-solving skills
• Excellent team working, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to treat patients with compassion and empathy.
• Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Compensation:

Salary starts at $115,000 depending on experience with productivity-based bonus system.

Schedule: Full Time Monday - Friday

• Friday hours variable depending on surgery schedule.
• Flexible time may be required and/or hours to accommodate patients' visits and treatments.
• Schedule may involve travel outside of normal business hours.

The typical schedule is:

Monday and Tuesday, 8 am to 5 pm

Wednesday 10am to 7pm

Thursday 10am to 5pm

Friday 8am to 2pm

Job Title: Physician Assistant

Position Description: An exempt position, under the direct supervision of the Physician Owner, responsible for practicing medicine with physician supervision including conducting examinations, assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating, and educating patients. Within physician–physician assistant (PA) relationship, PAs exercise autonomy in medical decision making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. May include responsibility for education and administrative services. Expected to provide leadership to clinical and administrative team members.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of accredited physician assistant program.
• At least three years of clinical experience after completion of physician assistant program, preference for orthopedic and/or podiatry.
• Clinical experience in surgical assisting, pre- & post-operative care and management.
• Current certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
• Active Alaska state medical license.

Essential Job Duties:

• Provide excellent patient care in person and via telemedicine based on practice guidelines, standards of care, and federal/state laws and regulations.
• Work independently and alongside supervising physician in performing office consults for new patients, follow-ups, and post-operative visits.
• Obtain and document patient health history, chief complaint, vital signs, and health risk factors.
• Document patient assessment, intervention data, test results, diagnosis, medications, and treatment using established medical record forms/automated systems and documentation practices.
• Educate patients and families about health status, health maintenance, treatment options, and management of acute and chronic conditions.
• Execute prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administer prescribed medications, and monitor and document treatment progress and patient response.
• Develop and implement treatment in compliance with medical practice guidelines and state laws.
• Order pertinent diagnostic laboratory and radiology testing for the medical diagnosis or presenting symptom.
• Assist the Physician during surgical cases taking place at different medical facilities, such as Ambulatory Surgical Centers and hospitals.
• Recommend appropriate community resources to meet patient/family needs.
• Communicates appropriate case management information to other professionals and community agencies.
• Maintain working knowledge of latest treatments, innovations, advances, and trends in the medical industry.
• Conduct and participate in outreach programs and work-related events.
• Participate in peer reviews, chart reviews, staff education, clinical guideline development, and other continuing education and quality assurance activities to demonstrate compliance with standards, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Comply with all applicable healthcare regulations, safety & privacy standards.
• Establish and document reasonable medical diagnoses.
• Prescribe medications as appropriate.
• Accept feedback and direction from the supervising physician.
• Comply with patient confidentiality requirements.

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge:

1. Knowledge of medical model and roles of physicians and physician assistants. Familiar with anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine, and physical diagnosis.
2. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments used to administer patient care.
3. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.
4. Knowledge of health promotion, health risk identification, and patient education principles and techniques.
5. Knowledge of community, professional, and educational resources.

Skills:

1. Excellent oral and written communication skills including interviewing to gather medical histories, providing presentations, consultations, facilitation, and documentation, e.g., writing medical orders, patient education materials, and medical record updates. May require skill in using computerized health information management systems.
2. Skill in case management, time management, problem solving, crisis intervention, multitasking, and other organizational matters.
3. Skill in modifying methods and techniques of medical physician assisting to provide appropriate medical care and in initiating appropriate emergency response and investigatory procedures.

Equipment Operated: Standard medical examination room equipment and instruments. Included use of computer/health information management system.

Mental/Physical Requirements: Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally requires lifting and carrying items weighing up to 10 pounds. Requires correct vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stress in emergency situations and occasionally may involve irregular working hours.
